Matching Hiking pants

by Harri

The goal of this project was to create two complete outdoor outfits. For myself, I produced a jacket and a pair of pants. For my wife, I made an anorak and a pair of matching pants.

Fabrics

We really like the EtaProof/Ventile. EtaProof/Ventile is a tightly woven cotton fabric that is wind- and weatherproof.
Fabric Details:

  • Main Fabric: Mostly EtaProof 200 Bio/Ventile® L24 ORG (200gsm).
  • Thai Curry Pants Fabric: EtaProof 240 Bio/Ventile® L19 ORG (240gsm).

Hem Protection: Uncoated Cordura 330den (185gsm).
All these material choices have proven to be very effective.

We love to individualize our outfit with the Nordic look. We have found a small Finnish company in Muonio which is selling wonderful Lappish style ribbons in different styles and widths.

Sewing the pants

Sewing the pants

I have been attending the local sewing course run by Birgit for many years already. And I appreciate the one-on-one guidance, so I do not need to read instructions. Sewing was straight forward, even though I sometimes have weeks in between due to work trips.

Somethings I like to mention here, Birgit is remarkable for remembering the details of all our diverse sewing course projects. If a problem arises, she always has a solution ready. Planning is also effortless, as great ideas constantly emerge during the course.

The Thigh pockets

As a fan of cargo pockets, the main challenge in sewing my wife's pants was the thigh zipper pocket. Surprisingly, it proved to be less difficult than anticipated.
